Kendradhipati Dosha: Benefic Kendra Lords for All 12 Lagnas
Published 2026-10-26 | Live Pandit Ji
The Rule (केन्द्राधिपति दोष)
Kendradhipati means lord of a kendra, and the dosha is a point of functional lordship in Parashara’s scheme. A graha that is benefic by nature, once it owns one of the angles, the 4th, 7th or 10th house, is read as giving up its benefic quality in that chart, and the reading is at its strongest when it owns two angles at once. The same rule has a second half that gets quoted less: a natural malefic that owns an angle is read as losing its malefic edge. Neither half changes what the graha signifies by nature; both are about the role it plays for one lagna.
The usual Parashari list of natural benefics is Jupiter, Venus, Mercury and the Moon, and the site’s planet table shows why authors hedge two of them. It calls Jupiter the greatest benefic and Venus benefic outright, but the Moon benefic only when waxing, and Mercury neutral, taking on the character of whatever it sits with. Some writers therefore apply the rule to the Moon only when it is waxing, or set it aside, and some apply it to Mercury only when Mercury is unafflicted. This page tabulates all four and leaves those conditions to the chart.
The Four Benefics, Lagna by Lagna
Each cell gives the houses that graha rules for that lagna under whole-sign lordship, with the kendras starred. The last column picks out the strict form, a benefic that owns nothing but angles and is not the lagna lord.
| Lagna | Jupiter | Venus | Mercury | Moon | Strict form |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Aries (मेष) | 9th, 12th | 2nd, 7th* | 3rd, 6th | 4th* | the Moon (4th) |
| Taurus (वृषभ) | 8th, 11th | 1st*, 6th (lagna lord) | 2nd, 5th | 3rd | none |
| Gemini (मिथुन) | 7th*, 10th* | 5th, 12th | 1st*, 4th* (lagna lord) | 2nd | Jupiter (7th, 10th) |

| Virgo (कन्या) | 4th*, 7th* | 2nd, 9th | 1st*, 10th* (lagna lord) | 11th | Jupiter (4th, 7th) |
| Libra (तुला) | 3rd, 6th | 1st*, 8th (lagna lord) | 9th, 12th | 10th* | the Moon (10th) |

Why the Pattern Follows the Sign Type
The table is not scattered. For every lagna the four kendras are signs of the lagna’s own type, movable, fixed or dual, so a graha can own an angle only from lagnas of the same type as its own signs. Jupiter and Mercury rule only dual signs between them, and so they own angles only for the dual lagnas (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces), where each of them owns two, never one. For the other eight lagnas neither owns a kendra at all. The Moon’s single sign, Cancer, is movable, so it owns an angle for the four movable lagnas: the 4th for Aries, the 1st for Cancer, the 10th for Libra and the 7th for Capricorn. Venus rules one fixed and one movable sign, which gives it exactly one angle for each of the eight non-dual lagnas and two for none; its other house is never a kendra.
That makes the dual lagnas the centre of the rule. In each of them both Jupiter and Mercury own two kendras. One of the pair is the lagna lord (Mercury for Gemini, Mercury for Virgo, Jupiter for Sagittarius and Jupiter for Pisces), holding the 1st and one other angle. The other is the strongest case the rule has: Jupiter for Gemini (the 7th and 10th), Jupiter for Virgo (the 4th and 7th), Mercury for Sagittarius (the 7th and 10th) and Mercury for Pisces (the 4th and 7th). Every one of those four holds the 7th. The Jupiter rows are discussed on the Hamsa yoga page and the Mercury rows on Bhadra yoga, where the same graha that carries the dosha can also form a Mahapurusha yoga in one of those angles.
Where the Site Does Not Apply It
Two exemptions run through the site’s lordship pages, and both come from how the houses are classed. The 1st is a kendra and a trikona together, and in the Parashari reading lordship of the lagna outweighs the kendra question, so a benefic lagna lord is not marked here even when it holds a second angle. And a benefic that owns a trikona alongside its angle is the yogakaraka rather than a dosha case. Among the benefics that happens only for Venus, from Capricorn and Aquarius; the full yogakaraka list is on the kendra-trikona raja yoga page.
Venus is the instructive row, because it owns an angle for eight lagnas and the strict form never catches it. For Taurus and Libra it is the lagna lord. For Capricorn and Aquarius it is the yogakaraka. For Scorpio its other house is a dusthana, and that lordship decides the reading first. That leaves Aries, Cancer and Leo, where Venus holds one angle and one house that is neither a trikona nor a dusthana. Whether the dosha touches those three is a question of which version of the rule an astrologer follows. The wide version applies it to any benefic owning an angle, while the narrow one requires the benefic to own nothing else.
The site’s gemstone pages use the narrow version, and this page is checked against them. Their kendradhipati verdict falls on exactly the seven cells in the last column: Jupiter for Gemini and Virgo, Mercury for Sagittarius and Pisces, and the Moon for Aries, Libra and Capricorn. For those lagnas the stone pages, such as Gemini gemstones and Sagittarius gemstones, explain the verdict in their own terms.
On “Cancellation”
Lists of conditions said to cancel this dosha circulate under this name, and they differ from author to author. The page does not reproduce one as the rule. What the tables do support is narrower: the two exemptions above follow from the house classes and are applied consistently across the site, and everything beyond them depends on the version of the rule being used and on the rest of the chart.
Natural Significations Stay Put
The dosha concerns lordship, so it leaves untouched what each graha stands for by nature in the planet table. There Jupiter is the karaka of teachers and gurus, higher learning and dharma, Venus of art and music among other things, Mercury of writing, trade and accounts, and the Moon of the mind (manas). Astrologers who use the rule read a Jupiter that carries it for Gemini as still the graha of learning, but with a weaker claim to act as a benefic for that lagna through its houses. That distinction between natural and functional nature is the whole content of the rule, and it gives no outcome for a person.
To find your row, the ascendant calculator gives the lagna. The Pancha Mahapurusha page shows where angles become yogas instead, the Vipreet Raja yoga page does the same lordship count for the 6th, 8th and 12th, and the wider set is on the kundli yoga list. In Hindi: केन्द्राधिपति दोष: 12 लग्नों में केन्द्र के स्वामी शुभ ग्रह.
The House Lords in Your Kundli
The Janam Kundli report works out your lagna, which graha rules each of the twelve houses, and where each graha sits by sign and house, from your birth details. Those are the facts this rule is applied to. The report does not grade the dosha or forecast from it.
