Bhakoot Dosha Cancellation Chart: All 36 Sign Pairs
Published 2026-10-29 | Live Pandit Ji
Bhakoot, worth 7 of the 36 guna, compares the two Moon signs and nothing else. When the signs stand 2 and 12, 5 and 9, or 6 and 8 places from each other, the koota scores zero and the result is called Bhakoot dosha. Of the 78 ways two Moon signs can pair up (counting a shared sign once), 36 fall on one of those three distances.
The matching tradition states two exceptions under which the dosha is held cancelled: the two Moon signs have the same lord, or their two lords are friends of each other on the natural friendship table. Applied to all 36 pairs, 17 meet one of them, 3 by a shared lord and 14 by mutual friendship. The other 19 meet neither. The tables below list every pair, so the question “is our Bhakoot dosha cancelled?” can be answered from two Moon signs without anything else.
What Cancellation Does and Does Not Change
The exception does not put the 7 guna back. Bhakoot is all-or-nothing: a forbidden distance scores 0 and any other distance scores 7, and a cancelled dosha still scores 0 in the total. What the exception changes is how the zero is weighed. This is how the site’s own matching tables apply it, and the Bhakoot koota page shows how that zero falls across all 11,664 pairings of birth-star quarters.
The distance is counted both ways, from each Moon sign to the other, which is why each case has two numbers. The three dosha distances go by names of their own: 2/12 is Dwirdwadasha, 5/9 is Navapanchaka and 6/8 is Shadashtaka. The other four distances, 1/1, 3/11, 4/10 and 7/7, carry no Bhakoot dosha.
6/8 (Shadashtaka): 3 of 12 Cancelled
| Moon signs | Sign lords | How the lords regard each other | Exception |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mesha – Kanya | Mars, Mercury | Mars counts Mercury enemy; Mercury counts Mars neutral | Not met |
| Mesha – Vrishchika | Mars, Mars | same lord | Met: both ruled by Mars |
| Vrishabha – Tula | Venus, Venus | same lord | Met: both ruled by Venus |
| Vrishabha – Dhanu | Venus, Jupiter | Venus counts Jupiter neutral; Jupiter counts Venus enemy | Not met |
| Mithuna – Vrishchika | Mercury, Mars | Mercury counts Mars neutral; Mars counts Mercury enemy | Not met |
| Mithuna – Makara | Mercury, Saturn | Mercury counts Saturn neutral; Saturn counts Mercury friend | Not met |
| Karka – Dhanu | Moon, Jupiter | Moon counts Jupiter neutral; Jupiter counts Moon friend | Not met |
| Karka – Kumbha | Moon, Saturn | Moon counts Saturn neutral; Saturn counts Moon enemy | Not met |
| Simha – Makara | Sun, Saturn | Sun counts Saturn enemy; Saturn counts Sun enemy | Not met |
| Simha – Meena | Sun, Jupiter | Sun counts Jupiter friend; Jupiter counts Sun friend | Met: Sun and Jupiter are mutual friends |
| Kanya – Kumbha | Mercury, Saturn | Mercury counts Saturn neutral; Saturn counts Mercury friend | Not met |
| Tula – Meena | Venus, Jupiter | Venus counts Jupiter neutral; Jupiter counts Venus enemy | Not met |
6/8 is the hardest of the three to cancel. Two of its three cancellations come from a shared lord, because Mars rules both Mesha (Aries) and Vrishchika (Scorpio) and Venus rules both Vrishabha (Taurus) and Tula (Libra), and each of those pairs happens to stand 6/8 apart. The only 6/8 pair cancelled by friendship is Simha with Meena, the Sun with Jupiter. In the other nine, at least one lord counts the other neutral or an enemy.
5/9 (Navapanchaka): 8 of 12 Cancelled
| Moon signs | Sign lords | How the lords regard each other | Exception |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mesha – Simha | Mars, Sun | Mars counts Sun friend; Sun counts Mars friend | Met: Mars and Sun are mutual friends |
| Mesha – Dhanu | Mars, Jupiter | Mars counts Jupiter friend; Jupiter counts Mars friend | Met: Mars and Jupiter are mutual friends |
| Vrishabha – Kanya | Venus, Mercury | Venus counts Mercury friend; Mercury counts Venus friend | Met: Venus and Mercury are mutual friends |
| Vrishabha – Makara | Venus, Saturn | Venus counts Saturn friend; Saturn counts Venus friend | Met: Venus and Saturn are mutual friends |
| Mithuna – Tula | Mercury, Venus | Mercury counts Venus friend; Venus counts Mercury friend | Met: Mercury and Venus are mutual friends |
| Mithuna – Kumbha | Mercury, Saturn | Mercury counts Saturn neutral; Saturn counts Mercury friend | Not met |
| Karka – Vrishchika | Moon, Mars | Moon counts Mars neutral; Mars counts Moon friend | Not met |
| Karka – Meena | Moon, Jupiter | Moon counts Jupiter neutral; Jupiter counts Moon friend | Not met |
| Simha – Dhanu | Sun, Jupiter | Sun counts Jupiter friend; Jupiter counts Sun friend | Met: Sun and Jupiter are mutual friends |
| Kanya – Makara | Mercury, Saturn | Mercury counts Saturn neutral; Saturn counts Mercury friend | Not met |
| Tula – Kumbha | Venus, Saturn | Venus counts Saturn friend; Saturn counts Venus friend | Met: Venus and Saturn are mutual friends |
| Vrishchika – Meena | Mars, Jupiter | Mars counts Jupiter friend; Jupiter counts Mars friend | Met: Mars and Jupiter are mutual friends |
Here the exception is met more often than not: 8 of 12, every one by mutual friendship, since no two signs with the same lord stand 5/9 apart. The four where the dosha stands are Mithuna–Kumbha, Karka–Vrishchika, Karka–Meena and Kanya–Makara, and in each of them Mercury or the Moon counts the other lord only neutral.
2/12 (Dwirdwadasha): 6 of 12 Cancelled
| Moon signs | Sign lords | How the lords regard each other | Exception |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mesha – Vrishabha | Mars, Venus | Mars counts Venus neutral; Venus counts Mars neutral | Not met |
| Mesha – Meena | Mars, Jupiter | Mars counts Jupiter friend; Jupiter counts Mars friend | Met: Mars and Jupiter are mutual friends |
| Vrishabha – Mithuna | Venus, Mercury | Venus counts Mercury friend; Mercury counts Venus friend | Met: Venus and Mercury are mutual friends |
| Mithuna – Karka | Mercury, Moon | Mercury counts Moon enemy; Moon counts Mercury friend | Not met |
| Karka – Simha | Moon, Sun | Moon counts Sun friend; Sun counts Moon friend | Met: Moon and Sun are mutual friends |
| Simha – Kanya | Sun, Mercury | Sun counts Mercury neutral; Mercury counts Sun friend | Not met |
| Kanya – Tula | Mercury, Venus | Mercury counts Venus friend; Venus counts Mercury friend | Met: Mercury and Venus are mutual friends |
| Tula – Vrishchika | Venus, Mars | Venus counts Mars neutral; Mars counts Venus neutral | Not met |
| Vrishchika – Dhanu | Mars, Jupiter | Mars counts Jupiter friend; Jupiter counts Mars friend | Met: Mars and Jupiter are mutual friends |
| Dhanu – Makara | Jupiter, Saturn | Jupiter counts Saturn neutral; Saturn counts Jupiter neutral | Not met |
| Makara – Kumbha | Saturn, Saturn | same lord | Met: both ruled by Saturn |
| Kumbha – Meena | Saturn, Jupiter | Saturn counts Jupiter neutral; Jupiter counts Saturn neutral | Not met |
The 2/12 pairs are neighbouring signs. One of them, Makara (Capricorn) with Kumbha (Aquarius), shares a lord in Saturn. Of the other pairs that share a lord, Mars’s and Venus’s stand 6/8 (above), and Mercury’s Mithuna–Kanya and Jupiter’s Dhanu–Meena stand 4/10, so they have no Bhakoot dosha to cancel.
Does Graha Maitri Cancel Bhakoot Dosha?
On these tables the two questions turn out to be one. Graha Maitri, worth 5 guna, scores the same two lords, and it gives its full 5 exactly when they are the same graha or mutual friends. Checked pair by pair, the Bhakoot exception is met in every case where Graha Maitri scores 5 and in no other. So a Bhakoot dosha with a full Graha Maitri score is a cancelled one, and the two kootas together then give 5 of 12. On the 19 pairs where the dosha stands, Graha Maitri gives 0, 0.5, 1, 3 and 4.
The 4s are the near misses. The rule asks for friendship in both directions, and on 8 standing pairs one lord counts the other a friend while the other returns only neutrality: Mithuna–Makara, Mithuna–Kumbha, Karka–Vrishchika, Karka–Dhanu, Karka–Meena, Simha–Kanya, Kanya–Makara and Kanya–Kumbha. The site’s tables do not stretch the rule to cover them. The planet friendship table shows every one-sided pair.
Sign by Sign
Every Moon sign has six partners at a dosha distance, two at each. How many of the six meet an exception depends on how many of the partner lords share its lord or are its lord’s mutual friends:
| Moon sign (lord) | Dosha partners, exception met | Dosha partners, exception not met | Met |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mesha (Mars) | Simha 5/9, Vrishchika 6/8, Dhanu 5/9, Meena 2/12 | Vrishabha 2/12, Kanya 6/8 | 4 of 6 |
| Vrishabha (Venus) | Mithuna 2/12, Kanya 5/9, Tula 6/8, Makara 5/9 | Mesha 2/12, Dhanu 6/8 | 4 of 6 |
| Mithuna (Mercury) | Vrishabha 2/12, Tula 5/9 | Karka 2/12, Vrishchika 6/8, Makara 6/8, Kumbha 5/9 | 2 of 6 |
| Karka (Moon) | Simha 2/12 | Mithuna 2/12, Vrishchika 5/9, Dhanu 6/8, Kumbha 6/8, Meena 5/9 | 1 of 6 |
| Simha (Sun) | Mesha 5/9, Karka 2/12, Dhanu 5/9, Meena 6/8 | Kanya 2/12, Makara 6/8 | 4 of 6 |
| Kanya (Mercury) | Vrishabha 5/9, Tula 2/12 | Mesha 6/8, Simha 2/12, Makara 5/9, Kumbha 6/8 | 2 of 6 |
| Tula (Venus) | Vrishabha 6/8, Mithuna 5/9, Kanya 2/12, Kumbha 5/9 | Vrishchika 2/12, Meena 6/8 | 4 of 6 |
| Vrishchika (Mars) | Mesha 6/8, Dhanu 2/12, Meena 5/9 | Mithuna 6/8, Karka 5/9, Tula 2/12 | 3 of 6 |
| Dhanu (Jupiter) | Mesha 5/9, Simha 5/9, Vrishchika 2/12 | Vrishabha 6/8, Karka 6/8, Makara 2/12 | 3 of 6 |
| Makara (Saturn) | Vrishabha 5/9, Kumbha 2/12 | Mithuna 6/8, Simha 6/8, Kanya 5/9, Dhanu 2/12 | 2 of 6 |
| Kumbha (Saturn) | Tula 5/9, Makara 2/12 | Mithuna 5/9, Karka 6/8, Kanya 6/8, Meena 2/12 | 2 of 6 |
| Meena (Jupiter) | Mesha 2/12, Simha 6/8, Vrishchika 5/9 | Karka 5/9, Tula 6/8, Kumbha 2/12 | 3 of 6 |
Mesha, Vrishabha, Simha and Tula have the most, 4 of 6. Karka has the fewest, 1: the Moon counts the Sun and Mercury as friends, but only the Sun returns the friendship, so Simha is the one partner where the exception is met.
Across Every Possible Pairing
Counted over the 108 birth-star quarters (padas) of each partner, that is 11,664 ordered pairings, Bhakoot scores zero in 5,832, which is 50.0%. Of those, 2,754 (47.2%) meet an exception, which leaves a standing Bhakoot dosha in 3,078 pairings, 26.4% of the total. Every sign holds exactly nine padas, so these are the sign-pair counts multiplied out. The kundli milan guide sets the same figures beside Nadi dosha’s.
What This Chart Does Not Tell You
Bhakoot is one koota of eight, and Ashtakoot as a whole reads only the two Moons. Whether a dosha is cancelled says nothing about the rest of either chart, and no table on this page is a verdict on a marriage. The other kootas, both charts’ seventh houses and the running dashas lie outside this chart. The free kundli matching tool gives all eight koota scores and the total for two birth stars, and the guna milan pages explain each koota. Bhakoot’s 6/8 count is a different thing from the 6/8 placement of two grahas in the sky, which the Shadashtak yoga page dates.

Beyond the Two Moon Signs
The Kundali Milan report sets out all eight kootas with both partners’ values and reasoning, then the parts of both charts the kootas leave out: the seventh houses and their lords, Venus and Mars, and the next ten years of antardashas side by side.
