lagna nakshatra
The Ascendant in Shatabhisha Nakshatra
Aquarius rising · nakshatra lord Rahu · 39 minutes at Delhi
A lagna in Shatabhisha, the 24th nakshatra, means Aquarius rising, whichever pada the degree is in, with Saturn as lagna lord. Shatabhisha itself is ruled by Rahu. Between Saturn and Rahu the friendship lists have no entry in at least one direction.
By sign, Rahu, Shatabhisha’s lord, is in a sign it co-lords in Aquarius, the lagna sign. In the navamsa each pada sets, that pada’s lagna lord is in a neutral sign in pada 1 (Sagittarius), in its own sign in pada 2 (Capricorn), in its own sign in pada 3 (Aquarius) and in a neutral sign in pada 4 (Pisces).
How Long Shatabhisha Takes to Rise
The ascendant crosses Shatabhisha’s 13°20′ in 39 minutes at Delhi, 42 minutes at Kolkata, 43 minutes at Mumbai and 45 minutes at Chennai. At Delhi that makes Shatabhisha the 4th-fastest of the 27. The difference between the four cities is about 6 minutes, the 21st-smallest of any nakshatra, and Shatabhisha’s arc lies 68° from the December solstice point, which is what that figure tracks (the comparison table shows how). These are durations, not clock times. When Shatabhisha actually rises depends on the date and the longitude, and a birth time a few minutes out moves the ascendant through a pada.

Pada 3 is vargottama, the same sign as lagna and as navamsa lagna.
