The Full Moon forms in your tenth house of work and standing at 9:38 pm on Monday 13 December. The New Moon forms in your fifth house of children, study and creative output at 1:42 am on Tuesday 28 December.

The second of those is more personal than it looks. A New Moon is the Sun and the Moon at the same degree, and your ruler has been in that fifth house since 4:33 pm on Thursday 16 December. So the New Moon on the 28th is your own ruling planet beginning a fresh cycle in the house of what you make. For a sign that is happiest when it has something to show, that is the month’s real gift, and it arrives in the last week.

Behind both of them a slower thing finishes. Saturn has been walking backwards through your eighth house — what the texts call Ashtama Shani when Saturn transits the eighth from the janma rashi — and it turns direct at 8:45 am on Friday 24 December, between the two lunations.

The Full Moon in Your Tenth House

The lunation on the 13th forms at 27°12′ of Taurus, in Mrigashira pada 2, which runs from 26°40′ to 30°00′ and is the last pada Taurus holds. So it happens two degrees forty-eight minutes from the end of your tenth house — at the far edge of it, where the house hands over to your eleventh of income and networks.

A Full Moon in the karma sthana makes work visible. Something you have been doing quietly gets looked at — by a manager, a client, a committee, or simply by more people than before. It is not by itself a promotion; it is exposure. Whether exposure helps depends on whether the work is finished, and the position at the very end of the house suggests it is closer to finished than you think.

There is a link worth following. Taurus is ruled by Venus, and Mrigashira’s lord is Mars — and Mars reaches Capricorn and its own exaltation at 12:57 pm on Monday 27 December, in your sixth house. Ashtama Shani Turns Forward on the Twenty-Fourth

Saturn holds Pisces, your eighth house, for all thirty-one days, and it never leaves Revati pada 4 — the last quarter of the last nakshatra of the last sign of the zodiac. It drifts backwards from 27°16′ to 26°50′, twenty-six arcminutes in a month, and turns direct at 8:45 am on Friday 24 December.

A station is published to the minute on this site while an ingress at this speed is not, and the distinction is real rather than fussy. A station is the moment a planet’s apparent motion reverses, which follows from the geometry between the Earth and that planet and nothing else. A sign boundary crossing at twenty-six arcminutes a month depends on where the boundary is drawn, and that depends on the ayanamsa a table uses. One is a fact about the solar system; the other is a fact about a convention.

Ashtama Shani has a heavy reputation and it deserves a plain description rather than an alarming one. Retrograde, it has had a going-back-over quality — the file that reopens, the claim that is queried again, the same difficult conversation with the same relative.

The Sun spends the first half of December in Scorpio, your fourth house, and crosses into Sagittarius, your fifth, at 4:33 pm on Thursday 16 December — Dhanu Sankranti. It covers 31°32′ over the month and enters Moola at the ingress and Purva Ashadha at 6:44 pm on Wednesday 29 December.

That is an upgrade for a Sun-ruled sign. The fourth house is home, mother and the interior; the Sun there tends to be restless rather than comfortable, because it is a house of quiet and the Sun is not. The fifth house is a Jupiter-ruled sign for you and a naturally friendly place for the Sun, and it is the house of exactly what Simha does best: making something and putting your name on it.

The Moon is on Simha from 5:11 am on Saturday 18 December to 7:49 am on Monday 20 December — fifty hours thirty-eight minutes, with Sunday the 19th as its single full day. Sunday is the Sun’s own weekday, and your ruler is newly in the fifth house when it comes around. An exalted Mars in the sixth house is one of the better placements in the whole of transit astrology for anyone in a fight — a dispute, a debt, a competitive process, or an illness that needs beating. The one qualification is Venus and Rahu. Around Thursday 23 December, Venus comes to Rahu’s own degree at 9°44′ of Capricorn. That is given as a day and not a minute because our table computes the node on the mean model, mean and true node can sit as much as one and three-quarter degrees apart, and Venus covers a little over a degree a day — so the other model would move the event by more than a day. Venus with Rahu in the sixth inflates an opponent’s position as easily as your own. Do not take the claim on the other side at face value either.

Mercury Is Combust for All Thirty-One Days

Mercury begins December about six degrees from the Sun, reaches the Sun’s exact degree at 3:46 am on Sunday 12 December — 25°23′ of Scorpio, in Jyeshtha pada 3 — and is still only about eleven degrees away on the 31st. The classical orb for asta is twelve degrees for a direct Mercury, so it is burnt on every one of the thirty-one days.

For Simha that burning sits in your fourth house until 2:03 am on Wednesday 15 December and your fifth after it. A combust Mercury in the fourth is the argument against signing a property document, a lease or a rental agreement in the first fortnight. In the fifth for the rest of the month it argues against a school admission decision, an examination form, or anything speculative — and note that the New Moon on the 28th falls in that same house, with Mercury still burnt in it.

Mercury is direct throughout and covers 49°08′, more ground than any other planet this month. So this is not a stalled December. It is a fast one in poor light, and the correct response is a written record of everything agreed out loud.
