The 3rd Lord for Pisces Ascendant: Venus
3rd house = Taurus · lord Venus · also lord of the 8th
With Pisces rising, the 3rd house is Taurus, the 3rd sign counted from Pisces, and Taurus is ruled by Venus. So for Pisces ascendant the 3rd lord is Venus, which also rules the 8th through Libra: one graha holds the 3rd and the 8th together for this ascendant. The 3rd is an upachaya, and the 8th a dusthana.
The lagna lord, Jupiter, counts Venus an enemy, while Venus counts Jupiter neutral: for Pisces ascendant the 1st and 3rd lords do not see each other the same way. The 3rd’s matters are younger siblings, courage and effort, communication style and short journeys; with Pisces rising they sit in Taurus, a fixed earth sign that is the 2nd of the natural zodiac.
Taurus as the 3rd House of Pisces Ascendant
Taurus exalts the Moon, deepest at 3°, so for Pisces ascendant the Moon is exalted in the 3rd, and it debilitates none. The house holds Krittika (padas 2, 3 and 4), Rohini (all four padas) and Mrigashira (padas 1 and 2), whose lords are the Sun, the Moon and Mars; Venus rules none of them. Opposite, across the chart, the 9th holds Scorpio, ruled by Mars.
