Finger, metal and day follow Venus rather than the ascendant, so they are the same wherever diamond is worn from. Treat the price band as a sanity check on a quote, not a valuation.

Where the 4th and 11th Lordship Comes From

Venus owns Taurus and Libra. Counting from Cancer as the first house, Taurus is the 11th and Libra is the 4th — which is the whole of it. Two signs, two houses — the 4th and the 11th from Cancer — and the verdict on diamond turns on which of the two carries more weight.

Neither of these is a trikona or a dusthana, so the rule that decides most cases does not apply. Diamond is not contraindicated for Cancer and it is not indicated either — it becomes relevant only if Venus is specifically afflicted in the chart, or if a dasha of Venus is running.

The Cancer gemstone page states this as a single line — “Diamond — Venus rules the 11th” — and lists it among the stones to avoid for this ascendant.

That is a stricter line than this page takes, and the difference is worth naming. The Cancer page puts 11th-lordship on its avoid side, and it does so consistently — in all twelve places on the grid where a graha owns the 11th from an ascendant, its stone is on that ascendant's avoid list and never on its good one. The trikona and dusthana test this page runs says nothing about the 11th in either direction. On this combination there is a further reason to take the stricter reading seriously: it cannot be worn alongside pearl, the Cancer primary stone and Venus owns the badhaka house from here. Neither page overrules the other: the lordship does not forbid diamond, and nothing on this page is a case for wearing it without a reading.

Wearing It Alongside Pearl

Pearl is the Cancer primary stone, because the Moon rules Cancer (Karka) and owns the 1st from it. So the pairing a Cancer native is most likely to consider is diamond with pearl, and whether that is allowed depends on how Venus and the Moon rate each other.

Venus counts the Moon an enemy while the Moon rates Venus neutral. Parashari friendship is not symmetric — eleven of the twenty-one graha pairs rate each other differently in the two directions, and seven of those eleven are a one-sided enmity exactly like this one. Tradition does not split the difference: one-way enmity is enough to rule the combination out, so a Cancer native should not wear diamond and pearl together.

On diamond generally: Lab-grown diamonds are chemically identical but tradition holds that only natural stones transmit the graha, so they are not used.

Venus in Cancer Itself

House lordship is one axis and sign dignity is another, and for a Cancer ascendant they do not always agree. Venus is exalted in Pisces and debilitated in Virgo, and Cancer is neither. So there is no dignity bonus and no dignity penalty for a Cancer ascendant, and the verdict on diamond rests entirely on the 4th and the 11th.

Venus governs love, marriage, beauty and luxury, and its mahadasha runs 20 years. For a Cancer native those years read through the 4th and the 11th — which is the practical reason the lordship above matters more than the stone's reputation does.

What a Cancer Ascendant Should Wear Instead

A graha owning neither a trikona nor a dusthana from Cancer has no particular work to do for that ascendant, and Venus is in exactly that position here. These stones do have work to do.

Mars is a yogakaraka for a Cancer ascendant, owning the 5th and the 10th together, so red coral is often the stronger recommendation than pearl itself. Pearl with coral is the standard Cancer combination; pearl with hessonite must be avoided.

If the appeal is diamond itself rather than Venus, its upratna is opal — a substitute of the same graha with a far milder effect, which is the usual compromise where the primary stone is contraindicated.

The Ascendants Diamond Reads Differently For

The same stone is not the same advice from every ascendant, and diamond is a clear example. From Cancer it is neither indicated nor forbidden. The two ascendants below read differently, and nothing about Venus or about diamond has changed: Taurus and Libra land on different houses when the counting starts from a different lagna.
