The 12th Lord in the 2nd House

The 12th lord in the 2nd house is the ruler of the 12th, the Vyaya / Moksha Bhava, placed in the 2nd, the Dhana Bhava. The 12th is a dusthana and the 2nd in none of them. Which graha that lord is depends on the ascendant, so the table below answers for all twelve.

Counted from the 12th, the 2nd is the 3rd house, which from any house is an upachaya position; counted back from the 2nd, the 12th is the 11th, an upachaya position from it.

On the Parashari reading, in which a lord carries its house’s matters to wherever it sits, the 12th lord in the 2nd reads the 12th’s matters — expenses and losses, foreign residence, spiritual liberation, and subconscious mind — through the 2nd’s: savings and wealth, family of origin, speech and voice, and values. For the 12th lord in the 2nd that is a frame, not a forecast; what it comes to depends on the graha, its dignity below, and the rest of the chart.

The 12th Lord in the 2nd, Ascendant by Ascendant

Across the twelve ascendants the 12th lord in the 2nd is exalted for Sagittarius, in a friend's sign for Cancer and Leo, in a neutral sign for Libra, Scorpio, Capricorn and Aquarius, in an enemy's sign for Aries, Taurus and Gemini and debilitated for Virgo and Pisces. The Sun and the Moon rule one sign each, so for Leo and Virgo, where one of them is the 12th lord, it rules no other house; for the other ten the last column gives the second house the 12th lord brings with it to the 2nd.

The Reverse: the 2nd Lord in the 12th

Where the 2nd lord sits in the 12th in the same chart as the 12th lord in the 2nd, each lord occupies the other’s sign, an exchange the texts call parivartana. For all twelve ascendants the 12th and the 2nd have different lords, so the exchange is possible whatever the ascendant.
