The 2nd Lord in the 12th House

The 2nd lord in the 12th house is the ruler of the 2nd, the Dhana Bhava, placed in the 12th, the Vyaya / Moksha Bhava. The 2nd is in none of the four classes and the 12th a dusthana. Which graha that lord is depends on the ascendant, so the table below answers for all twelve.

Counted from the 2nd, the 12th is the 11th house, which from any house is an upachaya position; counted back from the 12th, the 2nd is the 3rd, an upachaya position from it.

On the Parashari reading, in which a lord carries its house’s matters to wherever it sits, the 2nd lord in the 12th reads the 2nd’s matters — savings and wealth, family of origin, speech and voice, and values — through the 12th’s: expenses and losses, foreign residence, spiritual liberation, and subconscious mind. For the 2nd lord in the 12th that is a frame, not a forecast; what it comes to depends on the graha, its dignity below, and the rest of the chart.

The 2nd Lord in the 12th, Ascendant by Ascendant

Across the twelve ascendants the 2nd lord in the 12th is exalted for Aries and Gemini, in a neutral sign for Taurus, Cancer, Capricorn and Pisces, in an enemy's sign for Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio and Sagittarius and debilitated for Aquarius. The Sun and the Moon rule one sign each, so for Gemini and Cancer, where one of them is the 2nd lord, it rules no other house; for the other ten the last column gives the second house the 2nd lord brings with it to the 12th.

The Reverse: the 12th Lord in the 2nd

Where the 12th lord sits in the 2nd in the same chart as the 2nd lord in the 12th, each lord occupies the other’s sign, an exchange the texts call parivartana. For all twelve ascendants the 2nd and the 12th have different lords, so the exchange is possible whatever the ascendant.
