The 2nd Lord in the 9th House

The 2nd lord in the 9th house is the ruler of the 2nd, the Dhana Bhava, placed in the 9th, the Bhagya / Dharma Bhava. The 2nd is in none of the four classes and the 9th a trikona. Which graha that lord is depends on the ascendant, so the table below answers for all twelve.

Counted from the 2nd, the 9th is the 8th house, which from any house is a dusthana position; counted back from the 9th, the 2nd is the 6th, a dusthana and an upachaya position from it.

The Sun and the Moon rule one sign each, so for Gemini and Cancer, where one of them is the 2nd lord, it rules no other house; for the other ten the last column gives the second house the 2nd lord brings with it to the 9th.

For Virgo ascendant the 2nd lord, Venus, also rules the 9th, so in the 9th it sits in its own other sign, Taurus. For Pisces ascendant the 2nd lord, Mars, also rules the 9th, so in the 9th it sits in its own other sign, Scorpio.

The Reverse: the 9th Lord in the 2nd

Where the 9th lord sits in the 2nd in the same chart as the 2nd lord in the 9th, each lord occupies the other’s sign, an exchange the texts call parivartana. That is possible for ten ascendants. For Virgo (Venus) and Pisces (Mars) one graha rules both the 2nd and the 9th, so there is nothing to exchange.
