The 2nd Lord in the 5th House

The 2nd lord in the 5th house is the ruler of the 2nd, the Dhana Bhava, placed in the 5th, the Putra Bhava. The 2nd is in none of the four classes and the 5th a trikona. Which graha that lord is depends on the ascendant, so the table below answers for all twelve.

Counted from the 2nd, the 5th is the 4th house, which from any house is a kendra position; counted back from the 5th, the 2nd is the 10th, a kendra and an upachaya position from it.

Across the twelve ascendants the 2nd lord in the 5th is exalted for Taurus, in its own sign for Scorpio, in a friend's sign for Cancer, Virgo and Capricorn, in a neutral sign for Gemini, Leo and Libra, in an enemy's sign for Aries and Aquarius and debilitated for Sagittarius and Pisces. The Sun and the Moon rule one sign each, so for Gemini and Cancer, where one of them is the 2nd lord, it rules no other house; for the other ten the last column gives the second house the 2nd lord brings with it to the 5th.

For Taurus ascendant the 2nd lord, Mercury, also rules the 5th, so in the 5th it sits in its own other sign, Virgo. For Scorpio ascendant the 2nd lord, Jupiter, also rules the 5th, so in the 5th it sits in its own other sign, Pisces.

The Reverse: the 5th Lord in the 2nd

Where the 5th lord sits in the 2nd in the same chart as the 2nd lord in the 5th, each lord occupies the other’s sign, an exchange the texts call parivartana. That is possible for ten ascendants. For Taurus (Mercury) and Scorpio (Jupiter) one graha rules both the 2nd and the 5th, so there is nothing to exchange.
