The 2nd Lord in the 7th House

The 2nd lord in the 7th house is the ruler of the 2nd, the Dhana Bhava, placed in the 7th, the Kalatra Bhava. The 2nd is in none of the four classes and the 7th a kendra. Which graha that lord is depends on the ascendant, so the table below answers for all twelve.

Counted from the 2nd, the 7th is the 6th house, which from any house is a dusthana and an upachaya position; counted back from the 7th, the 2nd is the 8th, a dusthana position from it.

On the Parashari reading, in which a lord carries its house’s matters to wherever it sits, the 2nd lord in the 7th reads the 2nd’s matters — savings and wealth, family of origin, speech and voice, and values — through the 7th’s: spouse or partner, marriage, business partnerships and public relations. Across the twelve ascendants the 2nd lord in the 7th is exalted for Virgo, in its own sign for Aries and Libra, in a friend's sign for Sagittarius and Aquarius, in a neutral sign for Taurus, Gemini and Leo and in an enemy's sign for Cancer, Scorpio, Capricorn and Pisces. The Sun and the Moon rule one sign each, so for Gemini and Cancer, where one of them is the 2nd lord, it rules no other house; for the other ten the last column gives the second house the 2nd lord brings with it to the 7th.

For Aries ascendant the 2nd lord, Venus, also rules the 7th, so in the 7th it sits in its own other sign, Libra. For Libra ascendant the 2nd lord, Mars, also rules the 7th, so in the 7th it sits in its own other sign, Aries.

The Reverse: the 7th Lord in the 2nd

Where the 7th lord sits in the 2nd in the same chart as the 2nd lord in the 7th, each lord occupies the other’s sign, an exchange the texts call parivartana. That is possible for ten ascendants. For Aries (Venus) and Libra (Mars) one graha rules both the 2nd and the 7th, so there is nothing to exchange.
