The Jupiter Mahadasha for Capricorn Ascendant

16 years · Jupiter rules the 3rd and 12th

The Parashari way to read a mahadasha for a given ascendant starts with the houses its lord holds. For Capricorn ascendant Jupiter rules the 3rd (Pisces) and the 12th (Sagittarius), so for Capricorn the 16-year Jupiter mahadasha carries both an upachaya house and a dusthana house.

Counted from Capricorn, Jupiter is exalted in the 7th (Cancer) and debilitated in the 1st (Capricorn). Saturn, Capricorn’s lagna lord, and Jupiter count each other neutral. Jupiter’s own nakshatras fall in Punarvasu (the 6th and 7th), Vishakha (the 10th and 11th) and Purva Bhadrapada (the 2nd and 3rd) for Capricorn ascendant, which is where a birth that opens in the Jupiter mahadasha has its Moon.

For Capricorn ascendant, three of the Jupiter mahadasha’s sub-periods belong to lords of a dusthana (the 6th, 8th or 12th): Jupiter–Jupiter, Jupiter–Mercury and Jupiter–Sun, and two to lords of a trikona other than the 1st: Jupiter–Mercury and Jupiter–Venus. The sub-period of Saturn, Capricorn’s lagna lord, is Jupiter–Saturn, the second of nine, 2 years 6 months 12 days long. Counted in time, sub-periods whose lords hold a dusthana for Capricorn take 5 years 2 months 12 days (33%) of the Jupiter mahadasha’s 16 years, and those whose lords hold a trikona other than the 1st take 4 years 11 months 6 days (31%); a lord holding both is counted in both. In the Jupiter mahadasha for Capricorn, the Rahu and Ketu sub-periods are read through their dispositors in the chart, since neither node rules a house.

For a Capricorn-rising chart this is the frame of the Jupiter mahadasha, not a forecast: where Jupiter and each sub-period lord actually sit, and their dignity there, decide what it comes to, and this page cannot know either.
