The 4th Lord for Capricorn Ascendant: Mars
4th house = Aries · lord Mars · also lord of the 11th
With Capricorn rising, the 4th house is Aries, the 4th sign counted from Capricorn, and Aries is ruled by Mars. So for Capricorn ascendant the 4th lord is Mars, which also rules the 11th through Scorpio: one graha holds the 4th and the 11th together for this ascendant. The 4th is a kendra, and the 11th an upachaya.
The lagna lord, Saturn, counts Mars an enemy, while Mars counts Saturn neutral: for Capricorn ascendant the 1st and 4th lords do not see each other the same way. The 4th’s matters are mother's influence, home and property, inner contentment and vehicles; with Capricorn rising they sit in Aries, a movable fire sign that is the 1st of the natural zodiac.
Aries as the 4th House of Capricorn Ascendant
Aries exalts the Sun, deepest at 10°, so for Capricorn ascendant the Sun is exalted in the 4th; it debilitates Saturn at 20°, so Saturn is debilitated in the 4th. The house holds Ashwini (all four padas), Bharani (all four padas) and Krittika (pada 1), whose lords are Ketu, Venus and the Sun; Mars rules none of them. Opposite, across the chart, the 10th holds Libra, ruled by Venus.
