The 4th Lord in the 1st House

The 4th lord in the 1st house is the ruler of the 4th, the Sukha Bhava, placed in the 1st, the Lagna / Tanu Bhava. The 4th is a kendra and the 1st a kendra and a trikona. Which graha that lord is depends on the ascendant, so the table below answers for all twelve.

Counted from the 4th, the 1st is the 10th house, which from any house is a kendra and an upachaya position; counted back from the 1st, the 4th is the 4th, a kendra position from it.

Where the 1st lord sits in the 4th in the same chart as the 4th lord in the 1st, each lord occupies the other’s sign, an exchange the texts call parivartana. That is possible for ten ascendants. For Gemini (Mercury) and Sagittarius (Jupiter) one graha rules both the 4th and the 1st, so there is nothing to exchange.
