The 4th Lord in the 3rd House

The 4th lord in the 3rd house is the ruler of the 4th, the Sukha Bhava, placed in the 3rd, the Sahaja Bhava. The 4th is a kendra and the 3rd an upachaya. Which graha that lord is depends on the ascendant, so the table below answers for all twelve.

Counted from the 4th, the 3rd is the 12th house, which from any house is a dusthana position; counted back from the 3rd, the 4th is the 2nd.

The 4th Lord in the 3rd, Ascendant by Ascendant

Across the twelve ascendants the 4th lord in the 3rd is in its own sign for Scorpio, in a friend's sign for Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Virgo, Capricorn and Pisces, in a neutral sign for Leo, Libra, Sagittarius and Aquarius and debilitated for Cancer. The Sun and the Moon rule one sign each, so for Aries and Taurus, where one of them is the 4th lord, it rules no other house; for the other ten the last column gives the second house the 4th lord brings with it to the 3rd.

For Scorpio ascendant the 4th lord, Saturn, also rules the 3rd, so in the 3rd it sits in its own other sign, Capricorn.

For Leo ascendant (Mars, ruling the 4th and 9th), Libra ascendant (Saturn, ruling the 4th and 5th) and Aquarius ascendant (Venus, ruling the 4th and 9th), the 4th lord rules both a kendra and a trikona other than the 1st, and in the 3rd it is in a neutral sign for all three.

The Reverse: the 3rd Lord in the 4th

Where the 3rd lord sits in the 4th in the same chart as the 4th lord in the 3rd, each lord occupies the other’s sign, an exchange the texts call parivartana. That is possible for eleven ascendants. For Scorpio (Saturn) one graha rules both the 4th and the 3rd, so there is nothing to exchange.
