Where the 8th Lordship Comes From

The Sun owns Leo. Counting from Capricorn as the first house, Leo is the 8th — which is the whole of it. One sign, one house, so there is nothing to weigh against it.

Dusthana lordship — the 6th, 8th and 12th — makes a graha a functional malefic for that ascendant. Strengthening it with a stone strengthens the department of life the house governs, which for a Capricorn native is not the department they were hoping to strengthen. That is the whole reason ruby sits on the avoid list here.

Wearing It Alongside Blue Sapphire

Blue Sapphire is the Capricorn primary stone, because Saturn rules Capricorn (Makara) and owns the 1st and the 2nd from it. So the pairing a Capricorn native is most likely to consider is ruby with blue sapphire, and whether that is allowed depends on how the Sun and Saturn rate each other.

They are enemies in both directions. This is one of only two mutually hostile pairs among the twenty-one, and it is an unambiguous no: wear ruby or blue sapphire, never the two together.

On ruby generally: Ruby strengthens the Sun, so it is not advised for anyone with a strongly afflicted Sun-Saturn or Sun-Rahu combination without a chart reading first.

The Sun in Capricorn Itself

House lordship is one axis and sign dignity is another, and for a Capricorn ascendant they do not always agree. The Sun is exalted in Aries and debilitated in Libra, and Capricorn is neither. So there is no dignity bonus and no dignity penalty for a Capricorn ascendant, and the verdict on ruby rests entirely on the 8th.

The Sun governs soul, ego, vitality, leadership and father, and its mahadasha runs 6 years. For a Capricorn native those years read through the 8th — which is the practical reason the lordship above matters more than the stone's reputation does.

The Three Padas of Capricorn Where the Two Routes Disagree

Selecting a stone by janma nakshatra is the more precise route, because it pins the birth Moon to one nakshatra instead of a whole sign. Three nakshatras touch Capricorn — but a sign is nine padas of 3°20′ and the three divide them unevenly, not into thirds. Uttara Ashadha (Sagittarius 26°40′ – Capricorn 10°00′) is ruled by the Sun, and covers three of the nine.

So there is a real disagreement for those births: the nakshatra lord is the Sun, which argues for ruby, while the 8th from the ascendant argues against it. Neither route overrules the other on paper. In practice the ascendant's lordship is what a reading weighs first, and a birth under Uttara Ashadha is the one circumstance in which a Capricorn native might be pointed at ruby anyway.

What a Capricorn Ascendant Should Wear Instead

Because the Sun holds the 8th from Capricorn, ruby is the wrong instrument for this ascendant regardless of the stone's quality. The stones below belong to grahas holding the helpful houses instead.

Venus is the yogakaraka for a Capricorn ascendant, holding the 5th and the 10th, so diamond is often the better first stone than blue sapphire even though Saturn is your lagna lord. If you do wear Neelam, trial-wear it — it is your 1st lord, so the effect will be pronounced either way.

If the appeal is ruby itself rather than the Sun, its upratna is red garnet — a substitute of the same graha with a far milder effect, which is the usual compromise where the primary stone is contraindicated.

The Ascendants Ruby Reads Differently For

The same stone is not the same advice from every ascendant, and ruby is a clear example. From Capricorn it does not help. The two ascendants below read differently, and nothing about the Sun or about ruby has changed: Leo lands on a different house when the counting starts from a different lagna.
