The 7th Lord in the 12th House

The 7th lord in the 12th house is the ruler of the 7th, the Kalatra Bhava, placed in the 12th, the Vyaya / Moksha Bhava. The 7th is a kendra and the 12th a dusthana. Which graha that lord is depends on the ascendant, so the table below answers for all twelve.

Counted from the 7th, the 12th is the 6th house, which from any house is a dusthana and an upachaya position; counted back from the 12th, the 7th is the 8th, a dusthana position from it.

For Taurus ascendant the 7th lord, Mars, also rules the 12th, so in the 12th it sits in its own other sign, Aries. For Scorpio ascendant the 7th lord, Venus, also rules the 12th, so in the 12th it sits in its own other sign, Libra.

The Reverse: the 12th Lord in the 7th

Where the 12th lord sits in the 7th in the same chart as the 7th lord in the 12th, each lord occupies the other’s sign, an exchange the texts call parivartana. That is possible for ten ascendants. For Taurus (Mars) and Scorpio (Venus) one graha rules both the 7th and the 12th, so there is nothing to exchange.
