The 9th Lord in the 12th House

The 9th lord in the 12th house is the ruler of the 9th, the Bhagya / Dharma Bhava, placed in the 12th, the Vyaya / Moksha Bhava. The 9th is a trikona and the 12th a dusthana. Which graha that lord is depends on the ascendant, so the table below answers for all twelve.

Counted from the 9th, the 12th is the 4th house, which from any house is a kendra position; counted back from the 12th, the 9th is the 10th, a kendra and an upachaya position from it.

Where the 12th lord sits in the 9th in the same chart as the 9th lord in the 12th, each lord occupies the other’s sign, an exchange the texts call parivartana. That is possible for ten ascendants. For Aries (Jupiter) and Libra (Mercury) one graha rules both the 9th and the 12th, so there is nothing to exchange.
