Sun in the 9th House

The Sun, a mild malefic graha signifying father, government, authority, the soul (atma), medicine, administration, placed in the bhava of fortune, dharma, higher education, father, long-distance travel, gurus, philosophy — that pairing is the whole of what the Sun in the 9th house means before a chart is opened. It is a closer fit than most: the 9th house counts the Sun among its own natural significators, the karaka it is read through for the father. A significator sitting in the bhava it signifies is read more literally than any other placement, because the graha and the house are asking the same question.

Under Kaal Purush the 9th Is Sagittarius

In the natural chart the 9th house is Sagittarius, so the Sun here is in a friend's sign. The bhava answers to Jupiter, and the two agree about each other: each counts the other a friend, so nothing in the Sun’s dealings with the lord of the 9th pulls against itself — the terms on which this bhava delivers luck and fortune are set by Jupiter’s own placement alone. Sagittarius is spanned by Mula, Purva Ashadha and the first pada of Uttara Ashadha, lorded in that order by Ketu, Venus and the Sun. The Sun lords Uttara Ashadha among the three, so the Sun in the 9th is its own nakshatra dispositor when it falls in that nakshatra’s first pada — the one arrangement in which nothing at all mediates between the Sun and this bhava’s luck and fortune.
