Mars in the 1st House

Mars, a malefic graha signifying younger siblings, land and property, weapons, surgery, engineering, the armed forces, placed in the bhava of self, body, personality, life path, first impressions, head and physical appearance — that pairing is the whole of what Mars in the 1st house means before a chart is opened. The 1st house does not look to Mars for its significations though — it looks to Sun, and the Lagna lord itself — so Mars here colours this bhava’s matters without representing them, and the karaka’s own condition has to be read separately from this placement.

Under Kaal Purush the 1st Is Aries

In the natural chart the 1st house is Aries, so Mars here is in its own sign, with 0°–12° of Aries its moolatrikona. Mars rules Aries itself, so the 1st bhava is its own natural ground and it answers to no other graha for this house’s matters.
