The 8th Lord for Aquarius Ascendant: Mercury
8th house = Virgo · lord Mercury · also lord of the 5th
With Aquarius rising, the 8th house is Virgo, the 8th sign counted from Aquarius, and Virgo is ruled by Mercury. So for Aquarius ascendant the 8th lord is Mercury, which also rules the 5th through Gemini: one graha holds the 8th and the 5th together for this ascendant. The 8th is a dusthana, and the 5th a trikona.
The lagna lord, Saturn, counts Mercury a friend, while Mercury counts Saturn neutral: for Aquarius ascendant the 1st and 8th lords do not see each other the same way. The 8th’s matters are sudden change, occult and research and inheritance; with Aquarius rising they sit in Virgo, a dual earth sign that is the 6th of the natural zodiac.
Virgo as the 8th House of Aquarius Ascendant
Virgo exalts Mercury, deepest at 15°, so for Aquarius ascendant Mercury is exalted in the 8th; it debilitates Venus at 27°, so Venus is debilitated in the 8th. The house holds Uttara Phalguni (padas 2, 3 and 4), Hasta (all four padas) and Chitra (padas 1 and 2), whose lords are the Sun, the Moon and Mars; Mercury rules none of them. Opposite, across the chart, the 2nd holds Pisces, ruled by Jupiter.
