The 8th Lord for Scorpio Ascendant: Mercury
8th house = Gemini · lord Mercury · also lord of the 11th
With Scorpio rising, the 8th house is Gemini, the 8th sign counted from Scorpio, and Gemini is ruled by Mercury. So for Scorpio ascendant the 8th lord is Mercury, which also rules the 11th through Virgo: one graha holds the 8th and the 11th together for this ascendant. The 8th is a dusthana, and the 11th an upachaya.
The lagna lord, Mars, counts Mercury an enemy, while Mercury counts Mars neutral: for Scorpio ascendant the 1st and 8th lords do not see each other the same way. The 8th’s matters are sudden change, occult and research and inheritance; with Scorpio rising they sit in Gemini, a dual air sign that is the 3rd of the natural zodiac.
