This report sets out what was computed from the birth details given, and what the classical tradition associates with each position. It is a reference document, not a prediction: nothing in it is a finding about anyone's health, money, legal position or future, and it should not be used as a reason for a medical, financial or legal decision.

Sidereal positions, Lahiri-type ayanamsa, whole-sign houses counted from the lagna. R marks a graha that was retrograde at birth.

The lagna

The lagna is 21°02′ Virgo (Kanya), in Hasta pada 4. Virgo is a dual earth sign ruled by Mercury, and every house in this report is counted from it: Virgo is the first house, Libra the second, and so on round the zodiac.

The lagna lord is Mercury, which sits in Leo in the twelfth house. Parashara treats the lagna lord as the single most important graha in a chart, which is why its placement is given first. The lord of the first house in the twelfth is the site's page for this placement.

The Moon's nakshatra

The Moon is 2°46′ Aquarius, in Dhanishta pada 3. Aquarius is the Chandra rashi, the sign the site's own rashifal is read from. Dhanishta is ruled by Mars; the tradition names Eight Vasus as its deity and gives it the symbol “Drum”.

Nadi and yoni are two of the eight kootas Kundali Milan compares. The naming syllable is the one the naming tradition assigns to this pada.

The Moon's nakshatra also starts the Vimshottari dasha: Dhanishta is ruled by Mars, so the first period of life is Mars's, entered with 2 years left to run. Dhanishta pada 3 has more on the pada.

Each graha's placement

The twelve houses and their lords

Each house takes the sign that falls on it and the graha that rules that sign. The lord's own placement is the first thing a reading of a house looks at, so it is given beside each one. The third, fourth, fifth, seventh, eighth, ninth and eleventh houses hold none of the seven grahas placed here; an empty house is read through its lord.

Vimshottari dasha: every period with dates

The Vimshottari scheme gives a life nine periods, ruled in a fixed order and lasting 120 years in all. The order starts from the lord of the Moon's nakshatra, and the first period is entered part-way through, by the share of the nakshatra the Moon had not yet crossed at birth. The dasha pages take each pairing in turn.

What this report does not include

  • Rahu and Ketu. This engine does not compute the lunar nodes for a birth, so they are not placed rather than placed approximately.
  • Divisional charts (navamsa and the rest). None is built.
  • Dosha verdicts, including Mangal Dosha. Mars's house is given above as a fact; /tools/mangal-dosha/ does the reckonings and the cancellations.
  • Gemstones, remedies and predictions. A report computed from a chart is not the place for any of them.
  • Combustion. The site does not publish combustion boundaries.

How this was computed

  • Ayanamsa at birth: 23°46′ (Lahiri-type). Positions are sidereal.
  • Moon and Sun from a truncated ELP-2000 lunar theory and the solar longitude, checked day by day against NASA/JPL's DE421 ephemeris.
  • Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus and Saturn from JPL Keplerian elements, within 3.2 arcminutes of DE421 between 1900 and 2050.
  • Lagna from apparent sidereal time and the true obliquity at Pune (18.52°, 73.86°). Houses are whole signs, the North Indian convention.
  • Vimshottari periods from the Moon's nakshatra and the balance it leaves at birth, on the solar year of 365.2425 days. Programs that use the classical 360-day year give dates that drift a few weeks apart late in a long period; neither is a correction of the other.
